At BuckeyeMMA we believe that a strong ground game is the most beneficial foundation from which to start. To help develop that grappling base, we've instituted our Youth Submission Wrestling (YSW) program. Proper use of body weight, balance, leverage, and positioning can take years of practice to master.  Getting our athletes started at a young age will give them a tremendous advantage over those who are only just getting their feet wet as teenagers or young adults.

Aimed at kids in grades 1-8, the YSW program has 3 simple goals:

  • To reach and sustain a high level of fitness all-year-round.
  • To teach fundamental wrestling/submission techniques and hone them to perfection
  • To groom our young grapplers for advanced competition in high school and college as well as wrestling/grappling/MMA events at the local and national level.

Instruction will consist of approximately 75% wrestling technique with an emphasis on takedowns and positional control.  The other 25% will focus on submission techniques, their proper applications, and the appropriate defenses. Typical class format will include warm-ups, stretching, technique, drilling, and live grappling.
