McCoy Wins Main Event at OCC 7

Andrew McCoy came into Ohio Caged Combat 7 as the sacrificial lamb. With a pro record of just 1-1, many thought he was just another obstacle for Toledo native and hometown favorite, Josh 'ShortStack' Robinson (9-3 amateur, 2-0 pro).

And for the first 15 seconds of the fight, they were right.

In the very first exchange of the fight, Robinson dropped McCoy with a well timed right hook to the chin. McCoy's knees buckled and he dropped like a rock. That knockdown must have woke McCoy up as much as it put him down because he recovered immediately and went on to control and batter ShortStack for the remainder of the fight.

Robinson charged in recklessly, looking to finish McCoy off. His haste left him off balance and over-extended, however, and McCoy was able to take him down effortlessly. From that moment on, Andrew McCoy controlled Robinson on the ground, landed countless punches and elbows, and come close to finishing with two different submissions.

Going into the 3rd and final round, McCoy knew he had to finish Robinson. Despite being ahead on the score cards, he knew that the judges may not favor an out-of-town fighter over the hometown hero. So after a quick takedown and scramble, McCoy locked in a non-standard choke that forced Robinson to tap repeatedly. Despite their disappointment, the pro-ShortStack crowd congratulated Andrew as he made his way back to the locker room.  With the win, McCoy moves to 2-1 as a pro and is already scheduled to compete again on May 15 in Columbus for the MMA Festival. Check back soon for news on his fight and info on how to get tickets for the show!
